Europe

Iceland has adopted European regulations that impact the labour market through its membership in the EEA Agreement.

These regulations cover areas such as health and safety in the workplace, working time and rest periods, measures to address different forms of harassment in the workplace, social security coordination, and the protection of employees' rights during the reorganization of undertakings.

Nordic labour market

Iceland is affiliated with the Nordic labour market model, which embodies the principles adhered to in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland. This model emphasizes the role played by social partners in regulating the labour market.

BHM is a member of the Council of Nordic Trade Unions.

International Labour Organization (ILO)

Iceland is a member of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and fully upholds ILO principles and rights at work, which include the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.

These principles are integral to Iceland's commitment to promoting fair and inclusive labour practices.
