Andri Snær Magnason is an Icelandic writer and documentary film director born in Reykjavik on the 14th of July 1973.
Andri has written novels, poetry, plays, children's books and essays and his work has been published or performed in more than 40 languages. On Time and Water won the Tiziano Terzani Award in Italy 2021 and was shortlisted for the Nordic Councils Literary Prize of 2021. His novel LoveStar won the Philip K Dick Award and the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire for best translated sci fi in France 2016.
Andri has collaborated with various artists, designers and scientists. In 2019 he wrote the text to memorize Ok-Glacier - the first Icelandic Glacier to be lost to climate change. The memorial was nominated for Beazleys Design of the Year Award in 2020. The design of Krikaskóli elementary School with Einrúm Architects was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2011. His documentary film Dreamland premiered in IDFA 2009. The Hero’s Journey to the Third Pole – a Bipolar Musical Documentary with Elephants internationally premiered at CPH:DOX 2021 and his third doc Apausalypse is available on the Emergence Magazines Website.
