Sickness and accidents

Employees are entitled to sickness pay from their employer during a period of illness or accident.

The number of paid sick days an employee is entitled to may vary depending on the applicable collective agreement and whether the employee works in the public sector or the general labour market.

Employees who are absent from work due to sickness are accident must inform their employer as soon as possible and provide a medical certificate if requested. The cost of obtaining the medical certificate is typically covered by the employer.

If the entitlement to sick pay from the employer has been exhausted, and the employee is still unable to return to work, he may be eligible for financial assistance from BHM's sickness benefit funds.

People with reduced work capabilities, leading to prolonged absences from the labour market, can also access various forms of support through the social welfare system, including occupational rehabilitation and disability pensions.
