Policy and key principles

BHM advocates for the work of university graduates grounded in professionalism, emphasizing research, innovation, evidence-based methods, and established procedures.

Education and knowledge form one of the primary pillars of prosperity in contemporary society. The drive and expertise of individuals with a university education lead to heightened value generation and enhanced living standards. The significance of science and knowledge has demonstrated its worth and motivates us to establish a society rooted in knowledge, where sustainability serves as the guiding principle.

There is global competition for numerous job opportunities available to university graduates, impacting recruitment across various disciplines. The dynamic working environment for individuals with a university education undergoes continual transformation due to technological advancements, shifting attitudes, and societal developments. Technological progress has resulted in a decline in job opportunities within certain sectors, while the possibility of performing specialized knowledge jobs remotely has emerged.

Considering these changes, BHM advocates for heightened collaboration with the government, educational institutions, and the business world to analyse future labour market needs. It is crucial to explore the interplay between the fourth industrial revolution and the professional growth of university personnel, as well as the prospective opportunities arising within the labour market of tomorrow.

The fundamental mission of BHM revolves around safeguarding the rights of its member associations' constituents. Various factors necessitate consideration, including equality, non-discrimination, access to education, secure housing, healthcare and social services, employment opportunities, as well as the ability to partake in cultural and artistic pursuits.

BHM undertakes the responsibility of formulating policies pertaining to shared concerns among member associations and advocating for their members' interests in relation to the government, Althingi (the Icelandic Parliament), and other organizations within the labour market. Additionally, the alliance actively participates in social discourse concerning the status of university graduates and the value of university education.
